Rehearsal Dinner | 5 Tips to Photographing your Wedding Weekend | Alabama Wedding Photographer

North Alabama Wedding

On average, about half of our brides ask us to photograph their rehearsal dinner as well as their wedding. I absolutely love the atmosphere of rehearsal dinners!

1. There is so much excitement and anticipation that there is such a great energy in the room. The most heartfelt speeches are given that are filled with both laughter and tears. It is a monumental time for your parents…it’s the last night of you being their “little” girl before your dad gives you away. It really is a special time that is worth documenting.

2. I like to arrive a bit early to ensure we photograph details (my basic rule of thumb is photograph anything the bride might want to remember 10 years from now)… then I wait to watch it all unfold.

3. I want to anticipate emotion. Generally speaking, the rehearsal dinner is when the bride and groom are seeing their closest friends and family. I want to make sure I’m documenting these moments of joy as they’re happening, not after.

4. I’m staying on my toes and watching for new scenes unfolding, like someone seeing a friend’s baby for the first time, or a deep embrace from a cousin. These little moments are often the biggest in retrospect. Be there. Be in the moments.

5. Enjoy your evening. Get a few family photos and friend photos– but let the evening flow authentically. The following day will be full of portrait moments.
